Labradorite

Identification clues

A grey body suddenly flashes blue or multicoloured light when viewed from the right angle.

Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar; its flash is an interference effect called labradorescence.

Protect edges from knocks and use gentle cleaning rather than steam or ultrasonic methods.

Look a little closer

Compare the bright blue flash with the grey body. When handling a specimen, rotate it slowly rather than judging its appearance from one angle.
